Alphonso Davies' injury puts Canada’s World Cup hopes at risk as Bayern pledges cooperation

Bayern Munich’s sporting director Max Eberl said the club will work closely with Canada Soccer to give left‑back Alphonso Davies the best chance of recovering in time for the 2026 World Cup. Davies, who returned from a knee‑ligament tear in December, suffered a left‑thigh muscle injury after a substitute appearance in the Champions League loss to Paris Saint‑Germain on May 6. Bayern expect the injury to keep him out for several weeks, meaning he will miss the final Bundesliga match against Cologne and the German Cup final on May 23, and may miss the start of Canada’s group stage on June 12 in Toronto.

The club emphasized open communication with the Canadian federation to avoid further disputes after a previous clash over Davies’ use in a CONCACAF Nations League match. Canada plans to announce its 26‑man squad on May 29, hoping the player can regain fitness before the tournament.
