Alpine accidents in Austria result in one death and one rescue

Two separate alpine accidents occurred in Austria involving climbers and hikers.

In the Lienz Dolomites, two Czech nationals, aged 48 and 51, were rescued after becoming stranded on the Gamskopf mountain. After reaching the summit late in the evening, the pair was unable to find the descent route due to darkness and a lack of headlamps. A rescue operation involving 14 members of the Lienz Mountain Rescue, the Alpine Police, and an emergency doctor helicopter successfully extracted the climbers via hoist. Both individuals were uninjured.

In a separate incident on the Petzeck peak, a 55-year-old man from Villach died following a fall. While hiking with his wife, a rock dislodged under his feet during a descent, causing him to fall approximately 100 meters. Despite immediate first aid provided by nearby hikers and a mountain rescue member, the man was pronounced dead upon the arrival of a medical helicopter.
