Alpine F1 prepares appeal for Franco Colapinto penalty

Alpine F1 is preparing a formal appeal regarding a penalty imposed on Franco Colapinto during the Mexico City Grand Prix. The sanction, a ten-second penalty for failing to reduce speed sufficiently under a yellow flag, resulted in Colapinto dropping from eighth to fifteenth place, preventing him from scoring points.

The team intends to use a “Right of Review” to reopen the case, which requires presenting new evidence not considered during the initial analysis. Alpine plans to submit telemetry data, images, and mechanic statements to argue that the term “sufficiently” lacks a specific regulatory definition regarding speed reduction. The team aims to replicate a successful precedent set in Monaco, where they successfully appealed penalties against Pierre Gasly by providing new technical evidence.

Following a difficult weekend in Mexico, the team is now shifting focus to the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos. While preparing for the Brazilian race, Gabriele Minì is scheduled to participate in the first practice session (EL1) driving Pierre Gasly’s car.
