Alpine hiking tips for Allgäu mountain hut tours

Planning a mountain hut tour in the Allgäu region requires specific preparations regarding hygiene, finances, and safety. To prevent the spread of bedbugs, the German Alpine Club (DAV) recommends that hikers use cloth sleeping bag liners without metal components, such as metal zippers, as some huts use microwaves to treat linens.

Travelers should carry sufficient cash, as many mountain huts do not accept card payments. Due to complex transport logistics, food and drink prices are often higher than in valleys; the DAV suggests budgeting approximately 60 euros per overnight stay. For safety, hikers are advised to inform hut keepers of delays and to record their mobile numbers and planned routes in the hut guestbook to assist in case of disappearance.
