Alpine mountain worship services held in Germany and Switzerland

On Sunday 19 July, the Evangelical Deanery of Rosenheim organized a traditional Berggottesdienst on the Kampenwand in Bavaria, Germany. The service, titled “Gott stillt Hunger”, began at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Steinlingalm and featured a trombone choir and local alphorn players. Weather conditions could move the ceremony to the Catholic parish church in Aschau, with organizers advising attendees to bring warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy shoes.

A week earlier, on Sunday 12 July, a festal mountain service was held on the Alp Furgglen in the Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Diakon Martin Rusch led the service, which celebrated the Alp’s long‑standing Alpgenossenschaft and its 50‑year Alpsegen tradition performed by 89‑year‑old Albert Räss. President Toni Inauen highlighted the Alp’s history, and Landeshauptmann Stefan Müller sent written congratulations to the organizing family. The event combined a religious blessing with communal meals and traditional Alpine music.
