Alpine, Texas, recognized by Ghanaian journalist as ‘Eden of the Far West’

Alpine, Texas, has gained international recognition following a connection between the high-desert town and Ghanaian journalist Enoch Worlanyo. Worlanyo previously described the town as ‘The Eden of the Far West’ in a feature story.

Alpine Mayor Catherine Eaves recently acknowledged this description in her own vision for the community, creating a transatlantic moment of recognition between West Africa and West Texas. The town serves as a gateway to Big Bend National Park and the Davis Mountains, and is notable for being the center of the world’s largest Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve.

Worlanyo, reporting from Accra, has highlighted the town's evolution, including its downtown renaissance and its status as a destination for astro-tourism due to its protected, crystalline night skies.
