Alpine traditions celebrate autumn with livestock descents

Various alpine regions are preparing for traditional autumn celebrations, most notably the 'désalpe' ceremonies where livestock return to the valleys after the summer grazing season.

In Gryon, festivities include bell ringers, flag throwers, and yodelers. In Vercorin, the return of cattle will be accompanied by artisan stalls, Alpine horns, and workshops for children. Other scheduled events include celebrations in Ayer featuring decorated cows and cheese sales, as well as traditional festivities in Jaun during the Federal Fasting Monday.

Due to summer heatwaves and drought, some herds, such as those in Charmey, are expected to descend from the mountains earlier than usual.
