Alpini corps celebrates 154 years of history

The Italian Alpini corps celebrated its 154th anniversary, marking the establishment of the first fifteen companies by royal decree from King Vittorio Emanuele II on October 15, 1872.

Various units, including the 2nd Alpini Regiment of Cuneo and the 32nd Engineer Regiment of Fossano, held solemn ceremonies to commemorate the occasion. Division General Alberto Vezzoli highlighted the corps' deep connection to mountain communities and its evolution through modern technology and specialized training.

Historically, the Alpini have participated in numerous international missions, including UNIFIL in Lebanon and operations in Hungary. They have also been central to domestic disaster relief efforts, ranging from the 1908 Messina earthquake to more recent seismic emergencies in central Italy. Additionally, the corps provided logistical and operational support during the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
