Alpinist Dies After Fatal Fall in Poiana Țapului, Prahova
An experienced alpinist set out alone to establish a new climbing route in the Poiana Țapului area of Prahova County, Romania. As darkness fell he failed to return, prompting a friend to alert the regional mountain rescue service, Salvamont Prahova. Rescue teams located his vehicle, followed the intended path, and found the climber at the base of the rock wall, having fallen and sustaining multiple severe injuries. He was semiconscious when first‑aid was administered on site and then evacuated to an accessible point where an ambulance transferred him to the County Emergency Hospital in Ploiești. Despite medical treatment, the alpinist died the following night at the hospital.
Salvamont Prahova emphasized the incident as a reminder of strict safety rules in mountain activities, urging climbers to respect preparation, equipment, and weather conditions to avoid similar tragedies.
