Alsace A35 Highway Patrol Teams Keep 55 km of Road Safe

Road‑network agents at the A35 autoroute in Alsace work around the clock to clear objects, attend breakdowns and respond to accidents. At the Sainte‑Croix‑en‑Plaine control centre, chief Estelle Simon leads five team managers and 14 operators who monitor a 55‑kilometre stretch of the A35 and the adjacent RD83 between Sausheim and Saint‑Hippolyte, plus numerous interchanges and bridges.

The corridor handles an average of 67 000 vehicles per day, including 14 000 heavy‑goods trucks. Despite recent fuel‑price hikes, the patrols report no noticeable decline in traffic volume. Agents are authorised by a prefectural decree to walk on the motorway, a task they regard as essential for user safety.

Their duties include quickly removing debris, assisting stranded motorists and managing incident scenes to maintain smooth traffic flow, especially ahead of the summer “grand chassé‑croisé” holiday traffic surge.
