Alsace Drought Leaves July Rainfall 66% Below Normal

July precipitation in Alsace was 66 % below the 1991‑2020 average, with rainfall ranging from 10‑20 mm in southern Haut‑Rhin to barely 50 mm elsewhere, including the Vosges. The deficit has reduced river discharges: tributaries of the Rhine fell 51 % (Moder ‑45 %, Zorn ‑56 %), the Rhine itself dropped 59 % at Lauterbourg, and Ill tributaries averaged a 74 % decline (Thur ‑54 %, Doller ‑61 %, Bruche ‑71 %, Lauch and Fecht ‑80 %, Giessen ‑100 %). The upstream Ill fell 75 % at Didenheim. Groundwater levels continued to fall, with some sectors still near normal while others show deficits equivalent to 20‑40 years of dry conditions, notably at Rossfeld.
