Alsace Wine Route Highlights Scenic Towns Across France
France’s historic Alsace Wine Route stretches roughly 170 km from the northern towns of Wissembourg and Cleebourg near the German border, through the Strasbourg wine region, Centre Alsace and the Pays de Colmar, ending between Thann and Soultzmatt in the foothills of the Vosges. The route links renowned wine villages and medieval towns such as Eguisheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr, offering visitors panoramic views of vineyards, castle ruins and half‑timbered houses.
The pathway is easily reachable for day‑trippers from the nearby German cities of Freiburg, Offenburg and Karlsruhe, typically within one to two hours by car, making it suitable for both short excursions and brief holidays.
