Alsalus mobile clinic offers free mammograms in Garabito

A specialized mobile clinic operated by Alsalus is providing free digital mammograms to women in the Garabito canton of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The initiative aims to combat breast cancer through early detection and is scheduled to remain in the region until October 11, 2026.

The service is available to women aged 40 to 75 who have either never had a mammogram or whose last screening occurred in 2023 or earlier. The program is open to all women in this age group, regardless of their insurance status under the national health system, to address geographical and financial barriers to diagnostic imaging.

Legal expert Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas of Bufete de Costa Rica noted that under Costa Rican law, preventive health is a supported right. He emphasized that employers have a social and legal responsibility to provide paid leave for breast cancer screenings and routine medical checkups in accordance with occupational health guidelines.
