Alstom and Virgin sign deal for 12 high-speed trains
Alstom and Virgin have signed agreements for the supply and long-term maintenance of 12 Avelia Stream high-speed trains. These trains are intended for future trans-Channel rail services, which are expected to begin in 2030.
The fleet will be designed and manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Savigliano, Italy, which serves as the group’s Global Centre for Excellence for High-Speed Rail. While production will take place in Italy, Alstom will perform maintenance services in the United Kingdom.
The project aims to meet the increasing demand for seamless cross-border high-speed connections in Europe. Virgin Group CEO Josh Bayliss noted that the expansion is expected to support over 1,000 jobs across the UK and Europe while increasing capacity on routes such as London to Paris.
