Alstom begins dynamic testing of driverless trains for Santiago Metro

Alstom and the Metro de Santiago have commenced dynamic testing of the first Metropolis AS-22-UTO train for the future Line 7 in Santiago, Chile. The tests are being conducted at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Taubaté, Brazil.

Following the completion of static tests—which verified mechanical and electrical systems such as air conditioning, motors, and lighting while the vehicle was stationary—the dynamic phase evaluates performance in motion. This includes testing traction, braking, signaling, and the Unattended Train Operation (UTO) technology, which allows for fully automated, driverless service.

The contract includes the production of 37 compositions. Each five-car train will be 102 meters long with a capacity for over 1,200 passengers. Seven units have already been assembled and are in various stages of manufacturing or testing. Once operational, Line 7 is expected to serve approximately 1.6 million people in the Chilean capital.
