Alstom celebrates 100 years of Morden Traincare Centre

Alstom hosted an event at its Morden Traincare Centre in South London to commemorate the centenary of the Northern line’s extension from Clapham Common to Morden. The extension, which opened on 13 September 1926, added seven new stations: Clapham South, Balham, Tooting Bec, Tooting Broadway, Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon, and Morden.

As part of the celebration, guests toured the depot and viewed a specially commissioned exhibition titled ‘Morden 100: Portraits from the Northern line’ by photographer Nick Robinson. A timeline highlighting key moments in the history of the Northern line was also unveiled.

Alstom currently maintains the Northern line’s fleet of 106 1995 Stock trains from the Morden and Golders Green Traincare Centres. Rob Whyte, Managing Director UK at Alstom, noted that the centre has played a vital role in keeping the line moving for 100 years.
