Alstom delays new double-decker trains in Baden-Württemberg until 2028

The delivery of 156 new Coradia Max double-decker regional trains for Baden-Württemberg has been delayed until 2028. The manufacturer, Alstom, cited unforeseen challenges in the production process and the approval procedure as the reasons for the setback.

The trains were originally scheduled for phased deployment on various lines starting in December of this year. To maintain continuous rail service, Alstom is working with the State Institute for Rail Vehicles Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) to develop a replacement concept using substitute vehicles.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport expressed significant dissatisfaction with the delay, stating that trust in Alstom as a reliable supplier has been considerably impaired for both the state and other affected clients. The ministry expects Alstom to mobilize all necessary resources to bring the Coradia Max into passenger service as quickly as possible.
