Alstom electric trains enter service in Bulgaria

Two new Alstom Coradia Stream electric trains have entered service in Bulgaria, increasing the total number of these modern units in operation to four. The new trains, named after the Danube, Maritsa, Iskar, and Struma rivers, will serve routes between Sofia and Vidin, as well as Sofia and Burgas.

The procurement is part of a contract between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the BULEMU consortium, funded by Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. The agreement covers the delivery of 35 single-deck, zero-emission electric multiple units and 15 years of maintenance.

Each six-car train provides 325 seats across first and second classes. Designed for accessibility, the units feature low-floor construction, ramps for mobility-impaired passengers, and dedicated spaces for bicycles and strollers. Onboard amenities include air conditioning, passenger information systems, USB ports, and Wi-Fi capability.
