Altı Nokta Körler Derneği calls for White Cane Law in Muğla

The Muğla branch of the Altı Nokta Körler Derneği (Six Dots Blind Association) held an event at the Ortaca Municipality Sarıgerme Social Facilities to mark October 15, World White Cane Safety Day.

During the gathering, Branch President Mehmet Özdemir emphasized the critical role of the white cane as a guide and essential tool for visually impaired individuals in navigating public spaces. Özdemir called for the enactment of a ‘White Cane Law’ and urged for improved urban accessibility. He highlighted that current infrastructure, including sidewalks and social areas, often contains hazards such as potholes and obstacles that impede mobility.

Özdemir also issued a plea to the public and drivers, requesting that citizens offer assistance to visually impaired pedestrians and that drivers strictly adhere to laws requiring them to slow down or stop when encountering individuals using white canes.
