Alta Floresta councilor disputes water concession return rate

Councilor Dida Pires has contested claims regarding the privatization of water and sewage services in Alta Floresta, Brazil. Pires stated that the 46.19% Internal Rate of Return (TIR) was not included in the original law (Project Law No. 1.073/2001) approved by the City Council during the 2001/2004 legislature.

According to Pires, the rate was added through regulation by the municipal administration of former Mayor Romoaldo Junior after the law had already been sanctioned. He alleged that this regulation was done to favor the private company without the knowledge or consent of the City Council. Additionally, the councilor claimed that certain municipal documents disappeared at the end of that administration's term, a matter that has reportedly been referred to the judiciary.
