Altair-1 satellite arrives in Los Angeles for October 2026 launch

Emirates SkyCargo has completed the transport of Altair-1, the United Arab Emirates’ first commercial AI-enabled earth observation satellite, from Dubai to Los Angeles. The satellite was flown aboard a Boeing 777 freighter from Al Maktoum International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport in preparation for its scheduled launch in October 2026.

Developed and manufactured in the UAE by Orbitworks, Altair-1 is the first of 10 planned spacecraft that will form the Altair constellation. The satellite is equipped with multiple sensing systems, including optical, infrared, thermal, and radio-frequency capabilities, alongside onboard artificial intelligence processing.

The Altair constellation is designed to provide analysis-ready intelligence for various sectors, such as environmental monitoring, disaster response, maritime awareness, coastal and land-use studies, and infrastructure assessment. The mission highlights the UAE’s expanding role in space technology and the increasing demand for specialized aerospace logistics.
