Altay Spor Kulübü waives trustee lawsuit to expedite elections
Altay Spor Kulübü, a 114-year-old club based in Izmir, has decided to waive its lawsuit seeking the appointment of a trustee. The decision follows a second hearing at the Izmir 1st Civil Court of Peace, where the judge had adjourned the case until November 26, 2026, to collect documents from the Turkish Football Federation and other entities.
Honorary President Sinan Kanlı explained that the club chose to withdraw the case because the lengthy legal proceedings were incompatible with the football calendar. Kanlı noted that the delay could cause significant harm to the club's employees, players, and technical staff. Instead of waiting for a court-appointed trustee, the management plans to call for an extraordinary general assembly to hold new elections.
Club attorney Beyza Şen stated that the decision aims to prevent further damage to the sports club caused by the prolonged legal timeline. If the judge accepts the waiver petition, Altay is expected to enter a new extraordinary general assembly process.
