Altcoin market shows signs of breakout despite low Altcoin Season Index

The altcoin market is showing signs of a potential breakout, though analysts caution that a full ‘altseason’ has not yet arrived. The combined market capitalization for coins outside the top 10 has broken above a long-term trendline, and the TOTAL3 index—representing the market cap of cryptocurrencies excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum—has surpassed $800 billion.

Technical indicators show strength, with approximately 70% of altcoins listed on Binance recovering their 200-day moving averages. However, the Altcoin Season Index remains at 46, significantly below the threshold of 75 required to officially classify the period as an altseason. Additionally, Bitcoin dominance remains high at approximately 58.7%, suggesting that capital has not yet fully rotated out of the primary asset.

Market sentiment is divided. While some see the rising market cap and moving average recoveries as signs of a broadening market trend, others point to high Bitcoin dominance and the lack of widespread relative outperformance as evidence that the market is still in a Bitcoin-led phase. Analysts suggest that for a sustained altcoin rally to occur, Bitcoin must maintain price stability, and the Altcoin Season Index must continue its upward trajectory toward the 75 mark.
