Altenar opposes Sportradar’s request to move antitrust case to Swiss arbitration

Altenar has filed a motion in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey opposing Sportradar’s request to move their legal dispute to arbitration in Zurich, Switzerland. The lawsuit, originally filed in March, alleges that Sportradar violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act by restricting access to and manipulating the pricing of live sports data from major leagues, including the NBA, NHL, MLB, and ATP.

Altenar claims that Sportradar’s actions hindered competition and impacted its sportsbook technology business, specifically regarding in-play betting features. The company argues that Sportradar’s refusal to supply promised data coincided with the launch of Sportradar’s own sportsbook platform, ORAKO.

Sportradar has requested arbitration based on a 2021 partnership agreement between the two companies. Altenar contends that the arbitration clause does not cover antitrust claims and that moving the case to Switzerland would shield Sportradar from US public view and legal accountability. A judge will now determine whether the case remains in federal court or moves to private arbitration.
