Altenrhein Airport celebrates 100th anniversary with airshow

Altenrhein Airport is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a multi-day jubilee event and airshow running from August 28 to August 30. The festivities include historical aircraft displays, aerobatics, and performances by groups such as the Flying Bulls and the Patrouille Suisse.

The Patrouille Suisse appearance is noted as a significant highlight, as it represents one of the final opportunities to see the team fly the F-5 Tiger jets before the squadron's scheduled retirement in 2027.

Founded in 1926 following initiatives by aviation pioneer Claude Dornier, the airport was established on the Swiss side of Lake Constance to bypass post-WWI restrictions on aircraft production in Germany. Originally a testing site for developments like the Dornier Do X flying boat, the location evolved from a military repair facility into a regional hub for passenger and business aviation. Since 2011, under the ownership of entrepreneur Markus Kopf, the airport has served the Lake Constance region and provided connections to international networks and Vienna.
