Altenrhein Airport celebrates 100th anniversary with flight shows

Altenrhein Airport is celebrating its 100th anniversary this weekend with a festival themed ‘Fascination of Flying to Touch’. The event features aviation highlights, most notably a flight show by the Patrouille Suisse aerobatic team scheduled for Saturday.

The airport has deep historical roots linked to aviation pioneer Claude Dornier. Following the Treaty of Versailles, which prohibited aircraft construction in Germany, Dornier established production facilities on the Swiss side of Lake Constance, leading to the birth of the current airport.

While organizers initially expected between 70,000 and 100,000 visitors, ticket sales have been lower than anticipated. As of recent reports, approximately 25,000 tickets have been sold. An airport spokesperson stated that they expect a total of around 35,000 visitors over the weekend, provided the weather remains favorable.
