Alternativet prioritizes animal welfare in new policy platform

The Danish political party Alternativet has announced its primary policy priorities following a summer group meeting. The party’s top priority is a significant increase in animal welfare protections.

Political leader Franciska Rosenkilde has proposed allocating 200 million DKK in the 2027 budget to strengthen animal welfare inspections. This follows reports that approximately 1,500 follow-up inspections scheduled for 2025 and the first half of 2026 have not been conducted. Rosenkilde described the current state of the pig industry, where animal welfare laws are reportedly not being upheld, as ‘deeply critical’ and a violation of the law.

In addition to animal welfare, the party is focusing on supporting smaller local communities and promoting a more sustainable construction sector. Rosenkilde emphasized that the party intends to act independently and will not be limited solely by its role as a parliamentary foundation for the government.
