Althoff's spring racing plans depend on Rosehill performance

The racing future for the in-form gelding Althoff remains undecided as his connections evaluate his ability to compete at longer distances. Owned by the Yulong family, the five-year-old is scheduled to compete in the Wests Group Macarthur Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill this Saturday.

Trainer Chris Waller has identified the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast as the horse's ultimate long-term goal. However, a strong performance this weekend could alter spring plans, potentially opening the door for a run in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) in October.

Althoff has recently shown career-best form, most notably winning the Spring Preview (1400m) by defeating Group 1 performers Attica and Fully Lit. While there are concerns that a mile might stretch his capabilities, his upcoming 1500m test will be a deciding factor for his spring campaign.
