Alto Adige viticulture reaches 67 percent sustainability certification

Sustainable viticulture has seen significant growth in Alto Adige, with nearly two-thirds of the region's vineyard area now officially certified under the National Quality System for Integrated Production (SQNPI).

Coordinated by the Consorzio Vini Alto Adige, the initiative has expanded rapidly from a 2022 pilot project involving approximately 100 companies to 2,897 certified companies covering 3,913 hectares. This represents roughly 67 percent of the total vineyard surface in the region.

The SQNPI system, recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, utilizes specific guidelines approved by the Province to reduce environmental impact. Key objectives include minimizing the use of synthetic chemical phytosanitary products, optimizing fertilization, and adopting ecological measures tailored to the local territory. Industry leaders note that sustainability certifications are increasingly demanded by global markets.
