Alto del Carmen transport services face disruptions due to road conditions

Public transportation services in Alto del Carmen, Atacama, continue to face disruptions due to poor road conditions. During a meeting with the Municipal Council, officials from the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Transport and Telecommunications reported that several subsidized service routes are partially affected.

In the Valle del Tránsito, service between Malaguín and Vallenar is operating partially because certain sections are impassable. In the Valle del Carmen, specifically in Piedras Juntas and La Higuerita, buses are being rerouted to the main highway because the current one-way road conditions do not allow for safe passage.

Authorities noted that the technical specifications of the larger Pullman-style buses, such as their suspension and turning radius, make them unable to navigate heavily deteriorated or narrow roads that smaller vehicles might manage. Measures are being developed to progressively restore full coverage while prioritizing the safety of passengers and drivers.
