Alto Garças signs environmental and sanitation agreement

The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) has signed a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) with the municipality of Alto Garças to overhaul the city's environmental and sanitation policies. The agreement aims to address critical issues identified by the Prosecutor's Office, including the lack of a public sewage system, irregular solid waste disposal, and the need to recover degraded areas previously used as landfills.

Under the terms of the agreement, signed by Prosecutor Thiago Marcelo Francisco dos Santos and Mayor Cezalpino Mendes Teixeira Junior, new land subdivisions will only be approved if they include collective and environmentally adequate sewage treatment solutions. In areas without an immediate public network, developers must implement independent collective treatment systems, including collection networks and their own treatment stations.

Additionally, the municipality will establish its first Municipal Ecopoint for the free and segregated collection of recyclables, construction debris, bulky materials, and tree trimmings. The agreement also mandates the administrative and normative structuring of the municipal environmental agency and the recovery of degraded lands.
