Alto high‑speed rail evaluates Kingston station amid stakeholder concerns

Transport Action Canada backs a potential Kingston stop on Alto’s proposed high‑speed rail corridor but warns the planned southern alignment could place the station 25‑30 minutes north of the city. The group stresses the need for tight integration with existing Via Rail service, noting that “it is quite hard to make a competitive connection when one service can regularly be expected to be 30‑plus minutes late.” It also urges direct access to Montréal‑Trudeau and Toronto‑Pearson airports.

Alto says it is “rigorously analyzing this option,” reviewing construction costs, ridership forecasts, regional accessibility, technical feasibility and long‑term benefits. In a separate statement the company highlights its early‑stage, consultative approach, covering environmental, engineering, agricultural, Indigenous and land‑ownership considerations and pledging fair compensation for any required property acquisition.
