Alto Hospicio court authorizes first same-sex adoption in Tarapacá

The Letters and Family Court of Alto Hospicio has issued an unprecedented ruling in the Tarapacá Region, declaring a same-sex married couple legally fit for adoption. This marks the first judicial sentence of its kind in the commune.

The decision follows an extensive legal process involving technical evaluations, expert reports, and strict regulatory filters required by the Chilean child protection system to ensure the suitability of the home. The ruling prioritizes the best interests of the child and recognizes diverse family structures under existing legal frameworks.

With the favorable verdict notified, the couple can now proceed to the final stage of the process by formally submitting the adoption request to the corresponding authorities to consolidate legal filiation.
