Alto Hospicio hit by strong winds causing tree falls and power outages

Strong winds in Alto Hospicio, Chile, caused significant damage on September 18. Wind gusts exceeding 70 km/h resulted in the fall of more than 30 trees across the commune.

The storm damaged electrical wiring, leaving over 8,000 residents without power. Local councilman Tomás Soto noted that municipal teams were deployed to clear debris, though several older trees could not be recovered. The damage to the electrical grid complicated restoration efforts, which continued throughout the weekend. Additionally, the wind caused costly damage to infrastructure set up for Fiestas Patrias celebrations.
