Alto Hospicio municipal council adopts new pet ownership ordinance

The municipal council of Alto Hospicio unanimously approved an amendment to the local Responsible Pet Ownership Ordinance. The changes, prompted by the Tarapacá Regional Comptroller, eliminate euthanasia as a population‑control method, align fines with the national scale (1‑30 UTM), extend the claim period for rescued animals to 20 days, and give veterinarians discretion over vaccination schedules.

In a separate session, Mayor Patricio Ferreira led the third meeting of the municipal Disaster Risk Management Committee (COGRID). Officials reviewed the communal emergency plan, inspected clogged flood‑control walls, and coordinated technical visits to local streams. The council also discussed shelter capacity at Colegio Simón Bolívar (up to 2,800 people) and formalized liaison contacts, with support from the VI Division of the Chilean Army and other emergency services.
