Alto Hospicio municipality spearheads regional security coordination effort
The municipality of Alto Hospicio in Chile convened an inter‑institutional working table chaired by public‑security director Vanessa Cartes and regional security minister Omar Salazar. Participants included the Presidential Regional Delegation, the national assets agency, Carabineros, the Investigations Police, SERVIU and other bodies. The forum focused on early detection of illegal land occupations and on safeguarding the commune’s territorial order.
A parallel meeting brought together security officials from the neighbouring communes of Iquique and Huara. They discussed joint actions to curb vehicle theft, smuggling, illegal commerce, clandestine routes and the spread of micro‑litter. Proposed measures include shared communication protocols, interoperability of surveillance camera networks and coordinated community‑security teams to improve response to crime across the Tarapacá region.
