Alto Paraná clinic reports rising drug addiction cases
The Programmed Detoxification Clinic in Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná, is reporting a significant demand for drug addiction services. Dr. Noelia Ramírez, head of the clinic, stated that approximately 200 new users have entered the facility in the last six months. Additionally, between 400 and 500 individuals remain under active treatment and follow-up, including their family members.
The clinic provides free services from Monday to Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. The patient demographic is diverse, spanning ages from 10 to 70 years old. The medical team consists of three psychologists, two doctors, and a nursing professional in charge of admissions.
Dr. Ramírez emphasized that addiction is a chronic disease requiring long-term management. Effective recovery involves a continuous process with weekly consultations, typically lasting a minimum of two years. The treatment model also focuses on involving the patient's family environment to support the recovery process.
