Alton shopkeeper calls for security after £10,000 tobacco theft

A shop owner in Alton is calling for increased security and CCTV following a £10,000 tobacco theft. Anand Vadishela, owner of the Nisa Local on Alton High Street, reported that four individuals wearing helmets conducted a smash-and-grab raid at approximately 12:50 am on August 25.

The perpetrators used an iron plate to break the main entrance door and emptied ten racks of cigarettes, tobacco, cigars, and lighters. Vadishela noted that other local businesses, including a Co-op, have also been targeted in recent months. He expressed concerns regarding the lack of security patrols and surveillance on the High Street after dark.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed they were notified of the break-in at approximately 5:20 am on Tuesday, August 25, and have launched an investigation.
