Altopascio adopts dual initiatives: supporting commercial revitalization and launching citizen‑led election lab

The municipality of Altopascio became the first in the province of Lucca to join Confesercenti's signature campaign for a popular‑initiative law aimed at regenerating urban commerce and services. The proposed legislation seeks to combat commercial desertification through special‑zone incentives, tax and administrative benefits, a national observatory and a dedicated fund. Mayor Sara D’Ambrosio, assessor for commerce Adamo La Vigna, and local councilors presented the initiative at the weekly market, emphasizing the importance of neighbourhood shops for community life and security.

A year before the 2027 municipal elections, minority councilor Simone Marconi announced the launch of “Laboratorio Comune,” an open platform for citizens to discuss and shape the forthcoming electoral programme. The project will hold a series of public meetings across Altopascio’s districts, gathering input from residents, merchants, artisans and associations to develop concrete proposals and a participatory election platform.

Both actions underline Altopascio’s focus on strengthening local commerce and fostering bottom‑up political participation ahead of the next election cycle.
