Altos Hornos de México ex‑workers death toll rises to 85
The death count among former employees of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) has reached 85. The latest fatality was 59‑year‑old Efraín Cobarrubias Rincón, a former BOF department worker, who died of a heart attack on the night of Wednesday.
Labor leader Ervey Valenzuela said the deaths continue as the steelmaker remains in bankruptcy and the court‑ordered liquidation scheduled for 25 September proceeds without clarity on the resources available for unpaid severance. Families of the ex‑workers remain uncertain about receiving their owed benefits, and the ongoing dispute has heightened anxiety across hundreds of households.
