Altos Hornos de México: New consortium proposed after failed auction
Following the failure of a second auction for the steel company Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), Monclova Mayor Carlos Villarreal Pérez has expressed hope for a new resolution. The mayor acknowledged the economic instability and loss of confidence among families in the Central Region caused by the prolonged conflict.
A potential new path involves a proposal from a consortium consisting of Cargill and Afirme, both of which have reportedly been working formally on the matter. Villarreal Pérez noted that coordination between federal and state governments is helping to identify alternatives to address the AHMSA crisis.
While awaiting a defined route from the judge and the receiver, the mayor emphasized that Monclova must continue to pursue economic diversification and industrial investment, citing the recent arrival of Arcosa as an example of regional development efforts independent of the steel company.
