Altosano-Granjas Carroll donates biofertilizer to Mexican farmers
Altosano-Granjas Carroll has donated over 1,860 tons of an organic biofertilizer, known as ‘Piglizante’, to support more than 1,000 hectares of crops in the Mexican states of Veracruz and Puebla.
The biofertilizer is produced from organic waste via anaerobic treatment lagoons at the company’s production sites. In Veracruz, donations were coordinated with the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural and Fisheries Development (SEDARPA). Distribution included 460 tons in 2025 to various communities in Altotonga, and 600 tons in 2026 for corn producers in Villa Aldama, Altotonga, Estanzuela, Lerdo de Tejada, and Magueyitos. Additionally, 100 tons were applied in Atzalan for crops including lemon, corn, coffee, cinnamon, and anthuriums, with anthurium producers reporting yield and quality improvements of over 20%.
In Puebla, 700 tons were delivered to corn producers in the Nuevo Quimixtlán ejido, Guadalupe Victoria. The application of the product has been documented to increase production by 10%. The biological effectiveness of the fertilizer was evaluated by researchers from the Faculty of Biology and the Institute of Microbiology at BUAP and was validated in 2018 by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER).
