Altra reports progress on Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning

Altra has reported significant progress in the decommissioning of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant during the first half of 2026. The project has reached 46.4 percent of its total decommissioning scope, following the planned schedule for equipment removal and radioactive waste management.

A major milestone includes the completion of dismantling the R1 and R2 zones of the first unit's reactor, involving the removal of 198 tons of equipment. This progress prepares the facility for the technically complex stage of reactor core removal. Energy Minister Lukas Savickas noted that the project is a critical example of long-term partnership between Lithuania and the European Union.

To support the workforce during these complex operations, Altra has implemented free transportation for employees. Since September 1, the company has provided shuttle services from Visaginas, Zarasai, and Ignalina districts to facilitate commuting and attract new talent to the nuclear decommissioning team.
