Altra unveils Vanish Carbon 3 with split-toe carbon plate

Altra has unveiled the Vanish Carbon 3, the company’s fastest road racing shoe to date. The design focuses on integrating carbon plate technology with natural foot biomechanics through a patent-pending split-toe-carbon plate.

Unlike traditional carbon racing shoes that can immobilize the forefoot, the split plate separates at the big toe to allow for more natural movement and power generation. The shoe features FAST RCE, Altra’s lightest and most responsive supercritical pure PEBA foam, with the carbon plate sandwiched between two layers of foam.

According to Kylee Barton, Head of Product at Altra, the development process involved rethinking the foam, plate, outsole, and upper as a complete racing system. The design aims to provide the propulsion expected from a super shoe while maintaining the brand’s signature roomy toe box and midfoot lockdown.
