Altroconsumo study reveals significant grocery price variations across Italian supermarkets
An investigation by Altroconsumo reveals significant variations in grocery costs across Italian retailers, highlighting how store choice impacts household budgets. In Livorno, consumers can potentially save up to 400 euros annually by selecting more affordable supermarkets.
On a broader scale, the study analyzed 1.5 million prices across 1,158 locations in 67 Italian cities. The findings indicate that discount retailers dominate the most affordable category. Eurospin was identified as the most economical option, serving as the price benchmark. Other highly competitive retailers include In’s Discount, Lidl, and Prix Discount, which were found to be only 2% more expensive than Eurospin.
In contrast, traditional supermarkets such as Esselunga, Conad, Coop, and Carrefour show higher price indices. The study notes that price differences between certain retailers, such as Eurospin and Carrefour Market, can reach as high as 35%.
