AlUla develops luxury culinary scene in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is actively developing a high-end culinary scene as part of its broader economic diversification efforts. In the desert oasis of AlUla, international chefs are establishing a presence to cater to a growing tourism industry.
Notable developments include Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse opening a restaurant in the region, and British chef Jason Atherton operating a luxury establishment within a large mirrored building. Other dining options in AlUla include Somewhere, which offers Mediterranean-fusion cuisine in an oasis setting, and Saffron at Banyan Tree AlUla, which provides Thai cuisine. The expansion of the food industry coincides with the kingdom’s first-ever Michelin Guide awards and its wider strategy to transform its reputation and economy beyond oil.
