Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie loses opening Tauron Liga match

Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, a heavy favorite for the Polish championship, suffered an unexpected 0:3 defeat against newcomer GKS Katowice in the opening match of the 2026/2027 Tauron Liga season. The match scores were 24:26, 23:25, and 22:25.

Experts noted that while the team possesses a high-potential roster, they struggled with offensive creativity and ball distribution. Specifically, analysts observed that star player Tomasz Fornal was not utilized to his full potential, with the team's play described as lacking the tactical finesse expected of a championship contender.

Coach Michał Winiarski emphasized the importance of the team's reaction to this setback, stating that past successes do not guarantee future victories on the court. He noted that early-season matches are crucial for shaping the squad. Warta Zawiercie is scheduled to face ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle next, followed by a Superpuchar Polski match against Bogdanka LUK Lublin.
