Alvin Kamara restructures contract to stay with New Orleans Saints

Running back Alvin Kamara agreed on Wednesday to restructure his contract for the upcoming season, confirming his goal to remain with the New Orleans Saints. The deal revises the final year of a two‑year, $24.5 million extension he signed before the 2024 season; specific financial terms were not disclosed, but the new arrangement is expected to lessen the Saints’ salary‑cap burden for 2026. The restructuring does not prevent a possible trade. Kamara entered the season after a knee and ankle‑injury‑plagued year in which he posted career lows in games played, rushing yards (471) and touchdowns (one), as well as receiving yards (186) and touchdowns (zero). The Saints had earlier bolstered their backfield by signing free‑agent running back Travis Etienne to a four‑year, $52 million contract. NFL analysts note the Saints are now allocating a league‑high $21 million in cap space to seven running backs, underscoring the financial stakes of Kamara’s new deal.
