Alvin Wong Ho-hin Charged Over Illegal Possession of Endangered Species in Hong Kong

Alvin Wong Ho-hin, owner of the reptile education centre Nature Herpetology Education, was charged with illegal possession of endangered wildlife. Authorities say he is suspected of holding a live Spencer’s monitor, a protected Australian lizard, and a taxidermied African grey parrot. The case stems from a 2022 raid by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department that seized several animals, including a green iguana and a golden coin turtle, from an exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Wong, who co‑hosts the Exotic Pets World expo at Hopewell Mall in Wan Chai from July 25 to August 18, missed his court appearance, citing Type A influenza. He previously worked for the animal charity HK Herp and resigned in 2018 after a theft of endangered animals was reported.
