Alyssa Thomas receives jersey retirement as Connecticut Sun honor her career

WNBA forward Alyssa Thomas was celebrated in Uncasville, Conn., as the Connecticut Sun retired her No. 25 jersey. The ceremony marked the end of an 11‑year stint in which Thomas helped the Sun reach two WNBA Finals and six straight playoff semifinals, and she remains the franchise’s all‑time leader in points, rebounds, games, minutes and assists.

Thomas, nicknamed “the engine” by fans, said, “What a heck of a ride we had here… It was a great 11 years. Sad to see it go. I will never forget the memories.” The Sun, which will relocate to Houston next season, have been honoring former players and coaches this year, with teammates wearing commemorative No. 25 shirts, including DeWanna Bonner’s bedazzled version. Thomas left Connecticut for the Phoenix Mercury after the 2024 season and will continue her career in Phoenix.
